Procedure Card

A complete Procedure Card for the AM-650 hydraulic filter change, what each of its sections captures, and how to build one from a typed field log with the InSkill Field Card Creator skill.

A Procedure Card captures one simple, linear job: a swap, a clean, a refill, a reset or a calibration. It gives the steps in order, one action each, with the safety points and the lessons the field has learned doing the job. For jobs that need branching, recorded readings or sign-off, use a Task instead. For how Procedure Cards fit with the other card types, see Field Cards.

This page shows a complete Procedure Card, explains what each section captures, and then shows how to create one with the InSkill Field Card Creator skill.

What Each Section Covers

Sections are numbered on the card. Steps are the core of a Procedure Card; everything else supports doing them safely and proving they worked.

SectionWhat it capturesIn this example
HeaderThe customer logo, the card type and the card ID, with chips for status, language, version, review date and Demo content.Procedure card, ACW-AZMachineWorks-AM650-Truck-P-001-EN.
Summary boxEquipment, model years, subsystem and estimated time, plus When to use: the service interval or the condition that calls for the job. Source history counts the records behind the card. The 1,000 h service, a bypass indicator up, a pink breather, or a high TP-7 reading. Seven records.
1 Safety and preconditionsHow to make the machine safe for this job, and field lessons that prevent rework or injury.Lock out with the body down; relieve tank pressure at the breather; clean the tank top first, because grit fell into an open housing (E0012).
2 Tools and partsEvery part and consumable with its part number and interval, and the tools with their settings.Return elements 650-4310-00 with cover O-rings 650-4311-00, brake cooling filter 650-3310-00, breather 650-4330-00, HYDO-10 only, torque wrench at 30 lb-ft.
3 StepsNumbered steps in imperative mood, one action each. Each step points to its figure and cites the manual page or record it came from.Eleven steps, from locking out to checking the level with the body down after 5 minutes.
4 VerificationChecks that prove the job was done right before the machine returns to service.Level between the marks, bypass indicators down after the hoist cycle, no leaks, TP-7 40 to 90 psi.
5 If not resolvedWhat to do when the result is wrong: the likely cause, the related card, and what to bring when escalating.Metal flakes in a housing lead to the hoist pump check on the Fault Card; a false low reading with the body raised.
6 FiguresPictures that show the parts and the states to look for.Tank-top filters and indicators, metal flakes in a housing, the sight gauge and a blue versus pink breather.
7 Field notesDated records of the job in the field, with the model year, including what went wrong.Seven notes, including oil added through the breather port and an indicator left un-reset.
8 To be confirmedGaps to close before the card is verified.MY2022 part numbers and intervals in the 2022 manual; where oil samples go.
Legend, keywords and sourcesValue-tag legend, keywords and slang, and sources. Keywords include "filter popped" and "pink breather".

Example Questions

These questions were asked in Ask on Copilot (Truck) with the card uploaded, and InSkill GPT answered them correctly. Use them to check the card after you upload it.

Ask thisA good answer covers
"What torque do the hydraulic return filter cover bolts take?"30 lb-ft (41 N·m).
"I found metal flakes in the bottom of a return filter housing. What should I do?"Report it to the supervisor, take an oil sample, and check hoist pump flow.
"The hydraulic oil level looks low with the body up. Can I top it up through the breather?"No. A reading with the body raised is a false low: lower the body, stop the engine, wait 5 minutes, and top up HYDO-10 only through the filter-cart coupler.

How to Create a Procedure Card

Procedure Cards are created in Claude with the InSkill Field Card Creator skill. It writes the steps from the manual and adds the lessons it finds in the records as safety points, steps and field notes.

Follow these five stages in order:

  1. Gather the source data
  2. Run the skill
  3. Review the card
  4. Upload to InSkill
  5. Test the card in Ask

Gather the source data

Collect the records of the job being done: work orders, PM sheets and shift log entries, typed or handwritten, plus the manual section for the job.

The source for this example is the typed AZ Copper Works field log. These are the rows the skill used:

id,date,shift,unit,tech,area,entry
E0004,2026-07-09,Day,B43558,AL,Hydraulic,"1,000 h service: replaced both return filter elements 650-4310-00 with new cover O-rings, covers torqued 30 lb-ft, and the brake cooling spin-on filter 650-3310-00. Housing bottoms clean. Breather indicator blue. Level between marks after hoist cycle."
E0012,2026-07-27,Day,B43113,BS,Hydraulic,"Return filter bypass indicator up on the left cover. Changed both elements early. Tank top not cleaned before lifting the cover; grit fell into the left housing. Wiped housing clean before fitting the new element."
E0017,2026-08-10,Day,B43558,AL,Hydraulic,"Tank breather color indicator pink at about 640 h since last change. Replaced breather 650-4330-00 hand tight. Photo of old breather."
E0019,2026-08-14,Night,B43113,BS,Hydraulic,"Level checked with the body raised, read low. Night shift added HYDO-10 through the breather port. With body down level above the upper mark. Drained back to the mark through the filter-cart quick coupler. Breather port cleaned."
E0027,2026-09-02,Day,B43558,AL,Brakes,"AM-3021 recurring. TP-7 112 psi at high idle in HOLD. Replaced brake cooling filter 650-3310-00. TP-7 66 psi. No repeat in the next 3 shifts."
E0028,2026-09-04,Day,B43558,AL,Hydraulic,"Scheduled return filter change. Bronze-colored flakes in the bottom of the right housing. Reported to supervisor. Oil sample taken. Bypass indicators not reset after the change."
E0034,2026-09-21,Night,B43558,BS,Hydraulic,"Return filter bypass indicator up. Indicators had not been reset after the E0028 change. Reset both; no restriction found."

The manual used was the AMW-MP-650-25 Maintenance and Parts Manual (hydraulic oil and return filters, pages 31 and 32).

Run the skill

In Claude, attach the field log, the manual and the customer logo, and use a prompt like this:

Use the InSkill Field Card Creator skill.

Create a procedure card for changing the hydraulic return filters and the brake
cooling filter on the AMW AM-650 haul truck.
- Copilot: Copilot (Truck)
- Site: AZ Copper Works (prefix ACW)
- Keep the card generic to the AM-650: no unit numbers; note model-year differences
- Source: the attached field log, July to September 2026
- Take the steps and values from the attached AMW-MP-650-25 Maintenance and
Parts Manual, pages 31 and 32, and cite the page
- Turn every lesson in the log into a safety point, step or field note
- Header: the attached AZ Machine Works logo

If the job has more than about eight steps with settings, measurements, branching or acceptance tests, the skill recommends a full Task instead.

Review the card

Before you upload the card, check:

  • Every page reads cleanly, no heading is stranded at the bottom of a page, and the card ID fits the header.
  • Every field value appears in the source records, and every source ID on the card exists.
  • Every value taken from the manual cites its page.
  • The To be confirmed list names every gap, and who should close it.
  • The settings file has InSkill GPT Answers, App and Web all on.

Upload to InSkill

Field cards are uploaded with InSkill GPT Answers, App and Web all on. With App and Web off, InSkill GPT still uses a card, but doesn't show it as a resource in the answer.

  1. Open the copilot, here Copilot (Truck), and open its Resources tab.
  2. Click Bulk Upload and add the PDF.
  3. Under Configure defaults for uploaded files, leave Published on. Under Visibility, leave App, Web and InSkill GPT Answers selected. Under InSkill GPT, leave Searchable and Parse selected.
  4. Click Create 1 Resources, then Done.
  5. Open the new resource and set Name, Keywords and Description from the settings file. Leave Prompt empty. Click Save. See Editing Resource Attributes.
📘

Note

Claude can do step 5 for you through the InSkill MCP Server: ask it to apply the .inskill.json settings file to the uploaded resource.

In this example the resource name is Field Card (Procedure) | Change the hydraulic return filters and brake cooling filter.

Test the card in Ask

Ask the example questions in Ask on the copilot and check the answers against the card.

Files

The skill writes two files for each card:

FileWhat it is
ACW-AZMachineWorks-AM650-Truck-P-001-EN.pdfThe card: a branded, US Letter PDF. This is the file you upload to InSkill.
ACW-AZMachineWorks-AM650-Truck-P-001-EN.inskill.jsonThe settings file: the resource name, keywords, description and visibility to apply in InSkill.

The skill writes the card in English, even when the source records are in another language. It writes another language version, for example ACW-AZMachineWorks-AM650-Truck-P-001-ES.pdf, only when you ask for one. On request, it also delivers a kit with the template, builder, content files and images, so the card can be rebuilt after edits.

Card ID

Every card ID follows the pattern <Site>-<Brand>-<Model>-<MachineType>-<Code>-<Number>, and each language version adds a suffix:

PartIn this exampleMeaning
SiteACWAZ Copper Works, the site the records come from
BrandAZMachineWorksThe machine maker. Process is used when the maker can't be confirmed from the sources.
ModelAM650The machine model. Left out when it doesn't apply.
Machine typeTruckThe machine type
CodePProcedure card
Number001The card number for this site, maker, model, machine type and code
Language-ENAdded to the file names. English is the base language.

Value tags

Every value on the card is tagged so Technicians and InSkill GPT know how far to trust it:

TagHow it looks on the cardWhat it means
Field valueGrey value in a dashed boxTaken from the source records. Not yet confirmed by the maker.
Verified valueWhite value on solid blueTaken from the maker's manual, or confirmed by the maker.
To confirmAmber labelAdded by the author, not found in the sources. Validate it before anyone relies on it.

Status, version and review

ItemIn this exampleRule
StatusField-derivedA new card is always Field-derived. It becomes OEM verified once the maker confirms its values and the To be confirmed list is closed.
Version0.1The first version is 0.1.
Review date2027-01-29No more than 90 days after the card is made.
OwnerTo be assignedThe person who keeps the card current.
