Expertise Level and Users
How access levels — User 1–3, Tech 1–3, and Expert — match each person to the expertise they are qualified to see.
Every role carries one access level, and every piece of expertise carries the access levels allowed to see it. A person sees an item only when their role's access level is selected on it.
Access Levels
There are seven access levels. InSkill recommends using them this way:
| Access level | Typically for |
|---|---|
| User 1, User 2, User 3 | Customers, distributors, and everyday operators |
| Tech 1, Tech 2, Tech 3 | Your own trained Technicians and field service staff |
| Expert | The experts on a specific machine, who need the highest level of expertise |
How a Person Gets a Level
A person's access level comes from their role. Each of InSkill's core app roles carries one:
| Role | Access level |
|---|---|
| User 1 - InSkill Apps | User 1 |
| Tech 1 - InSkill Apps | Tech 1 |
| Expert - InSkill Apps | Expert |
A custom role can use any of the seven levels. Assign a role when you add a person on the Team tab, or a customer on the Customers tab, of the Admin portal. See Roles and Assigning Roles.
Setting Levels on Expertise
All levels are selected by default. Clear a level to keep an item from people at that level — for example, clear User 1, User 2, and User 3 on a manual for repairing a high-pressure system that operators should not work on.
| Expertise | Where to set its levels |
|---|---|
| Resource | User Levels on the resource. See Editing Resource Attributes. |
| Task | User Levels in Task Details. |
| Step | User Levels on the step's Info tab. |
| Solution | User Levels on the solution's Details tab. See Solutions. |
| GPT agent | User Levels on the agent. See GPT Agents. |
An item is not available to people whose level is cleared, and it is not used to answer their InSkill GPT questions. See Visibility by Role.
